The first two-seat prototype of the fifth-generation Su-57D fighter (s/n 055) carried out its maiden flight on May 19, 2026. The aircraft was piloted by Sukhoi chief test pilot Sergey Bogdan.

The Su-57D is essentially a modified two-seat version of the Su-57, reportedly developed from the T-50-5R prototype, which later received the s/n “055.”

Available photographs indicate that the forward fuselage section was redesigned to accommodate a second crew member in a raised seating arrangement. At the same time, nearly all other external characteristics of the Su-57 “Felon” have been retained. This suggests that the aircraft’s flight performance is likely to remain close to that of the single-seat variant.

According to representatives of United Aircraft Corporation, the second crew member is primarily intended to control accompanying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), as well as to assist with mission coordination and operational management tasks.

Photos show that the two-seat fighter differs only slightly from the standard single-seat version. It is widely believed that the Su-57D may be aimed primarily at the Indian export market.
