In the late 60-ies in the OKB S.V. Ilyushin initiative, under the leadership of General Designer GV Novozhilova work began on the creation of aircraft Il-102 in direct support of troops.
The concept takes into account developments of OKB over its predecessor, the plane Il-42. In May 1980 began building prototype Il-102.
In 1984, the aircraft was delivered to conservation. In 1992, the Il-102 was exhibited at the Russian aerospace exhibition "Mosaeroshow-92."
