The turboshaft engine TV3-117 was developed since 1965 for the Mi-24 helicopters (the engine was equipped with a VR-24 and VR-14 gearbox). A special design feature of the turboshaft engine TV3-117 is the presence of a free turbine (as on the TV2-117). The power generated by the free turbine is transmitted to the gearbox and constitutes the effective power of the engine. The control system is hydroelectronic.
The TV3-117 engine can be used in addition to helicopters on various (surface) vessels, as a drive transmission for electric generators and compressors in oil and gas pumping stations.
In total, more than 23,500 TV3-117 engines of all modifications were produced (ed. the TV3-117 is one of the most reliable engines in the world). The turboshaft engine is still in operation in various countries around the world. In the last (7) years, not a single in-flight engine failure has occurred!
Design features:
- axial 12-stage compressor with adjustable inlet guide vanes and guide vanes of the first four stages.
- annular straight-flow combustion chamber.
- axial 2-stage compressor turbine.
- axial 2-stage free turbine.
- exhaust pipe (exhaust nozzle) with 600 flow turn.
- hydromechanical (on the first modifications) and electro-hydromechanical (on the latest modifications) regulation and control system.
- a dust protection device can be installed at the compressor inlet.
