The GTD-350 is a small, single-stage turboshaft engine with a free turbine and a takeoff power of 400 hp. It features an axial-centrifugal compressor consisting of (seven axial stages and one centrifugal stage), a single-stage compressor turbine, a tubular combustion chamber, a two-stage free turbine, and an intermediate gearbox.

Mass production of the engine began in 1963 and continued until the late 1990s.
From 1964 onward, the GTD-350 turboshaft engine, together with the VR-2 gearbox, was mass-produced at the Polish WSK PZL Świdnik plant. In total, more than 11,000 units were manufactured.
