These four helicopters were acquired by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2001 and joined the fleet of the 301st Transport Helicopter Squadron. A multipurpose single-rotor helicopter powered by two TV3-117MT or TV3-117VM gas turbine engines. The maiden flight was made on 17 August, 1975. Series production has been carried out at the Kazan helicopter plant since 1977 and UlanUde plant since 1991.

As of 1999, there were produced about 3,000 aircraft, of which over 800 were exported all over the globe. The primary versions are the Mi-8MT and Mi-17 multipurpose helicopters featuring a lifting capacity of 5 tonnes and powered by two TV3-117MT 1900-hp engines.
