Yak-201 - developed as a multi-role VTOL fighter and a development of the Yak-141/Yak-43. The design and development was carried out in the mid-90s by the OKB Yakovlev, on its own initiative, but remained in the drafts of. As the drawings show, the aircraft is outwardly quite similar to Lockheed's F-35 JSF (the similarity is beneficial in that in the 90s, all designs of the RD-79-300 engine and the Yak-41 (Yak-141) were sold to the American company). The aircraft would be equipped with an upgraded version of the R-79M-300 engine with an increased thrust of 176,2 kN (31.796 kgf), and fully electronically controlled (FADEC), with a redesigned combustion chamber and other systems.
