The two-letter initials “PU” – Flying command post
Subordination: The Special Air Group for the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation
On the 12th of May 2010, the version Tu-214PU flew for the first time as a command aircraft (with serial number RA-64517).
This aircraft was developed after a decision by the President of the Russian Federation, in order to strengthen the Presidential air fleet. The airplane has the latest communications and control equipment and other electronic instruments.

Overall, 3 aircrafts were manufactured (editor's note: with other sources 6 aircraft). The second version of Tu-214PU (serial number RA-64520) was delivered in January 2011.
With one of those aircrafts which was delivered to the Special Air Group "Russiya", in October 2011, the first official visit of President Dmitry Medvedev was done.

Though the aircraft was based on the passenger version of Tu-214, yet it has substantial differences.
