NATO reporting name: Bear-F
Subsonic four-engine turboprop, anti-submarine aircraft, created in the early 70s on the basis of the Tu-95RС aircraft (Long-range reconnaissance and target designation aircraft). It bear a very strong navigation and target assault radar type “Korshun” (e.g. surface ships), terrain-following technology. Defensive armament consists of two AM-23M, 23-mm cannons in the tail mount (controlled by a radar sight).
Aviation means of destruction (internal bay) - anti-submarine torpedoes 450mm, anti-ship torpedoes 533mm, depth bombs, as well as up to eight anti-ship missiles Kh-35 on external hardpoints.
The Tu-142 is capable of carrying a full range of AT-1, AT-1M, AT-2, AT-2M anti-submarine torpedoes, APR-3E missiles (airborne anti-submarine missile), MDM-3 or MDM-6 bottom mine, S-3V type anti-submarine guided bomb, UMGT-1ME anti-submarine torpedo, bottom bombs and other weapons).
