Two-seat, single-engine jet combat training aircraft. The first flight was made on August 15, 1975. In 1976, the first Su-17UM combat training aircraft were delivered to the Air Force.

The aircraft was created on the basis of the Su-17M, was mass-produced from 1976 to 1982. Su-17UM was in service until 2016.
