NATO reporting name: Foxhound E
Letter “Ε” export version

Double, twin-engine, supersonic fighter-interceptor was created on the basis of the MiG-31, in the early 90s. The main difference of the export version was the different equipment (avionics), but with the same capabilities to direct other aircraft like the MiG-21, MiG-23 and MiG-29 to targets. The aircraft was equipped with the “Zaslon” radar (export modification), with the possibility of transportation up to four R-33E long-range missiles (export version) and up to four short-range missiles on pylons under the wing.

The first MiG-31E (side 903) was shown to the public in June 1992, at the ILA-92 air show (Berlin), after which he took part in many international exhibitions. Many countries have expressed interest in the MiG-31E, but the situation in Russia and partly trade policy have led to negative and unresolved questions about the delivery of the aircraft for export.
