The modernized turbojet was created on the basis of RD-3M and is intended for installation on Tu-104 aircraft. The design of the engine uses the usual scheme of a turbo compressor air-jet engine.


RD-3M-500 Turbojet engine.
Single-shaft turbojet with axial eight-stage compressor, annular combustion chamber, two-stage gas turbine, with non-adjustable jet nozzle.


After the removal of A. A. Mikulin from the leadership of OKB-300, the AM-3 engine was renamed RD-3.
