In 2012 For the first time, photographs of the Y-9XZ (Y-9GX-10)  special modificatin aircraft appeared. The aircraft was developed on the basis of the Shaanxi Y-9 (military transport aircraft), to replace the obsolete Y-8XZ (GaoXin 7). The aircraft is similar to the American EC-130J Commando Solo, with the mission's of psychological warfare. The aircraft is equipped with energy-intensive broadcasting equipment that “jamming” LW (long wave), VHF (ultra short wave), HF (short wave), television, military and civilian broadcast systems.

The aircraft is equipped with energy-intensive broadcasting equipment that which “jamming” and transmit psychological warfare messages in bands such as: LW (long wave), VHF (ultra short wave), HF (short wave), television, military and civilian broadcast systems.

To conduct cyberwarfare and spread disinformation over the internet, they have installed a SATCOM-type antenna (mounted on a special fairing at the top of the fuselage).

The first aircraft joined the armed forces in 2014. A total of 12 aircraft were delivered for the year 2023.
