In 1979 they joined the forces of the Hellenic Navy the first AB-212ASW helicopters, specially designed for anti-submarine warfare. Overall the Hellenic Navy received from 1979-1984 eleven H/C AB-212ASW and three H/C AB-212EW.

The helicopter power plant consists of two Pratt&Whitney Canada PT6T-6 (B) Turbo Twin Pac turboshaft engines with a maximum power of 3.801 s.h.p. take-off mode (maximum continuous power 2.757 s.h.p.).

The helicopter has an external winch with a carrying capacity of 270 kg. 
All Greek Navy helicopters are armed with missiles, torpedoes of the Mk.44 and Mk.46 type (transporting up to two torpedoes), up to two depth bombs and the MG.3 machine gun (7.62 mm on starboard side).

Helicopters can be used from surface ships as well as air based, such as: frigates of the Kortenaer class, MEKO 200HN, Elli and also a literally tank-carrier of class Samos.
