In 1979 they joined the forces of the Hellenic Navy the first AB-212ASW helicopters, specially designed for anti-submarine warfare. Overall the Hellenic Navy received from 1979-1984 eleven H/C AB-212ASW and three H/C AB-212EW.
The helicopter power plant consists of two Pratt&Whitney Canada PT6T-6 (B) Turbo Twin Pac turboshaft engines with a maximum power of 3.801 s.h.p. take-off mode (maximum continuous power 2.757 s.h.p.).

All Greek Navy helicopters are armed with missiles, torpedoes of the Mk.44 and Mk.46 type (transporting up to two torpedoes), up to two depth bombs.

Helicopters can be operated from surface ships or land bases such as: Kortenaer class frigates, MEKO 200HN and HELLI, SAMOS class tankers.
Accidents and disasters:

February 11, 2016, the Hellenic Navy, the crash of the helicopter AB-212ASW with the number “s/n HN 28”, the island of Kinaro, near the island of Leros.

January 31, 1996 the crashed AB-212EW with the number “s/n HN 21”, carrying out rocky identification (Imia) mission (Near the rocky islets of Imia (about 3 km north of Imia).
