The Yak-9 Soviet fighter planes, in versions D, M and T created the heavy arms nucleus in the 4 Polish Air Force regiments fighting on the Eastern Front in the spring of 1945.

The Yak-9P was the final serial version of the Yak family of fighter aircraft which was still powered by a piston engine. This version of the plane was powered with a new version of the engine, one with greater power as well as with on-board enhancements. The first 10 Yak-9P fighters were introduced to the 1st “Warszawa” Air Force Fighter regiment in November of 1947. 

During the late 1940's and into the 1950's the Yak-9P was the standard plane in the Polish Air Force, where it served as a bomber-fighter-on September 1, 1949 of the 170 Yak-9Ps in service in the Polish Air Force, a total of 93 were Model Yak-9 version P. 
The fighter on exhibit was used by the 1st “Warszawa” Air Force Hunter regiment.
