The hypersonic rocket aviation complex developed on the basis of the 9M723 "Iskander-M" and is designed to effectively destroy ships as aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers and the frigate as well as on stationary objects.

The first missiles have been certified for the MiG-31 carrier aircraft and concern the first stage of modernization.
The modified aircraft were of the series:
MiG-31 – prototype (1975), MiG-31 built 1982, of production aircraft, MiG-31 year 1988 with different intake and other structural elements etc, MiG-31D3 built in 1983, equipped with an aerial refueling system, MiG-31B built 1988-1993 and MiG-31M/D built 1986.

The maximum range of the missile with an aircraft-bearer is 2.000 km.
The aircraft that flew the trials with serial numbers were the first modified MiG-31BM: Serial number 592 RSK MiG, “Red 90”, “Red 91”, “Red 92”, “Red 93” and “Red 94”. Second stage concerning the modernization of 113 MiG-31 to MiG-31BM/BMS/K level.
