A shipborne antisubmarine warfare (ASW) coaxial-rotor helicopter equipped with the Osminog ASW system and two TV3-117VK 2,200-hp turboshaft engines. 

The maiden flight was made on 8 August, 1973. The helicopter has been in series production since 1979 at the Kumertau-based helicopter plant. As of 2001, about 270 machines were made. The aircraft is operated by the Russian Navy. 

It served as the base for deriving the Ka-27PS SAR helicopter to carry 16 rescuees (its maiden flight was made on 8 August, 1974); Ka-28 ASW export version featuring an increased fuel endurance (the maiden flight was made in 1982, the helicopter was exported to India, Yugoslavia, Vietnam).
