NATO reporting name: Backfire B
Αlso known as: Tu-26


On May 7, 1973, the Tu-22M2 Backfire B made its maiden flight, with improvements in flight and navigation control systems and armament systems, equipped with more powerful NK-22 engines, modern equipment, interaction with the navigation complex NK-45.

In 1976, the aircraft joined the forces of the Air Force and the Navy. A total of 211 units were built. All aircraft remained active until the mid-1990s.

Armament:

- two 23 mm radar guided machine gun Gsh-23L in the tail of the aircraft.
- special pds under the fuselage and wings for carrying 3 missiles Kh-22 (one under the fuselage and two under the wings).
