NATO reporting name: Frogfoot
Russian name: Grach (named after Rock (bird))
The fist 10 upgraded Su-25M3 were received by the squadron which is based in Krasnodar. This is a version with a lot of modifications and modernizations, with almost the whole of its electronic system upgraded or redesigned. For better targeting precision, the airplane now is equipped with the GLONASS (the Russian GPS system), thus improving its performance by three times, compared to earlier versions.
This precision will give the airplane such an advantage so that it can release its payload right on target with its first pass, while it will allow “blind” releases with a CEP=10m.
Su-25SM3 Attack aircraft.
The production of the Su-25M3 started late 2012. It was pointed out that this was not about the upcoming modernization of the 80 Su-25SM, that are planned to be deliver until 2020, (up to date the Army Air Forces have received over 30 of them).
The new version will be equipped with new electronic warfare systems, like the “Vitebsk-25”-targeting system with the ability of using X-29 (Kh-29) air-to-surface missiles, guided KAB-Kr bombs and of course GLONASS guided bombs.
In addition, it will have the latest long range communication systems (up to 1000 klm) with encryption capabilities.
Su-25SM3: Especially modified aircraft based on the Su-25UB at Attack aircraft / ground air defense systems.
According to existing information, the new version will have only one pilot and instead of a seecond pilot will be equipped with an additional fuel tank, new SOLT-25 targeting system (electro-optical with laser and thermal signature guidance) and will be able to lock on 4 targets through the use of a new AESA radar.
The payload remains at about 6 tons.
