Su-17 (NATO reporting name: Fitter) – This is a fighter-bomber developed in the mid-1960s (with several parts of the structure derived from the Su-9). In fact, it is the first Soviet aircraft developed with variable wing geometry.

The craft remained in service for nearly three decades with the USSR Air Force. The aircraft was promoted to several countries, and took part in many military conflicts.

 

Modifications:
S-32M2D: Su-22 prototype.
Su-22 (S-32M2K):Su-17M2 export version. Equipped with the R-29B-300 engine. First flight January 1975. Built from 1976 to 1980.
Su-22M (S-52K): Export version of the Su-17M3. Equipped with the R-29BS-300 engine. This variant had lower performance electronic equipment and different armament.
It was manufactured from 1976 to 1980. It was exported to countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq, South and North Yemen, Libya, Peru and Syria.
Su-22M3 (S-52M3K): It carried different electronic equipment than the Su-17M3 version. During the period 1981-1992, 12 aircraft were built for Hungary.
Su-22M3R: Reconnaissance aircraft based on the Su-22M3.
Su-22M4 (S-54K): Export version of the Su-17M4. Equipped with the Al-21F-3 engine. Its development began in 1984 and continued until 1990.
Su-22M4R: Reconnaissance aircraft based on the Su-22M4.
Su-22R: Reconnaissance aircraft based on the Su-22.
Su-22UM (S-52UK): Two-seat combat trainer. The first flight of the prototype took place in December 1979. It was produced from 1979 to 1982.
Su-22UM3 (S-52UM3K): Export version of the Su-17M3. During 1982-1983, 4 aircraft were built for Hungary.
Su-22UM3K: Two-seat combat trainer. Equipped with the Al-21F-3 engine. It was manufactured from 1983 to 1985.
