A twin-seat trainer powered by two Snecma/Turbomecha Larzac 04-R20 1.440-kgf turbojet engines and foreign-made avionics suite. The maiden flight was on 16 March, 1996.
The second aircraft equipped with the Russian-made avionics was flown out on 28 October, 1997. Series production was launched by the MiG Russian Aircraft Corporation's Voronin Production Centre in 1996. By 2001, 15 airframes of production aircraft had been at different degrees of assembly, with one aircraft having been transferred to the design bureau.

The trainer is planned to be exported in a configuration powered by French-made engines and avionics, while a variant with Russian-made avionics and RD-1700 engines in being developed for the Russian Air Force.
