In numbers Through the lens Video
The MiG-29UBT is a twin-seat multirole combat aircraft derived from the MiG-29UB combat trainer powered by two RD-33 engines 8,300-kgf each. In developing the MiG-29UBT, the same principle were employed, that had been used in upgrading the MiG-29 singleseater under the MiG-29SMT programme, namely an open-architecture avionics suite, an electronic indication system, advanced weapons systems including air-to-surface guided weapons, a mid-air refuelling system, etc. the MiG-29UBT's fire control system is wrapped around the small-size Osa-2 multifunctional phased-array radar.

The first MiG-29UBT prototype was built by the Mikoyan design bureau in May 1998 and accomplished its maiden flight on 24 August that same year. The spring 1999 saw the second MiG-29UBT flying prototype assembly completed in cooperation with the Sokol aircraft production plant. The second prototype flew on 26 May, 1999.

The first MiG-29UBTs joined the Russia AF in 2004, as a modernized two-seat multirole combat aircraft (training fighter). All "UBT" do not have radar (Osa-2), while they were equipped with a collapsible fuel refueling tube, without the ability to take fuel in the air (s.s. its use is possible only for training in air refueling).
