MFI - Multifunctional Fighter Programme
STATUS: Test flights. The program was finally cancelled.
The 1.44 is a technology demonstrator powered by a pair of AL-41F turbofan engines. It was built under the fifth-generation MFI multifunctional fighter programme.
The fighter's design concept provides for supermanoeuvrability, supersonic non-afterburner cruise, stealthiness, higher precision against both ground and aerial targets.
The 1.44 aircraft was built in 1994. Its maiden flight took place on 29 February 2000. The results of the 1.44 flight trials are expected to stand Mikoyan in good stead in development of the future fifth-generation aircraft.
At present, all work on the project is suspended. The only remaining copy was definitively sent for conservation.
The results of the 1.44 flight trials are expected to stand Mikoyan in good stead in development of the future fifth-generation aircraft.
Equipment: An air-to-ground radar compatible with modern AESA radar type. The radars are housed in a special sting-shaped. Nacelles between the engines which cover the rear hemisphere of the aircraft. It fires missiles rearwards.
Phazotron AESA radar NIIR N-104 with the capability of tracking from 20 up to 40 targets simultaneously while searching continues. It may perform jamming below the horizon.
Detection range 300 km. Range for target jamming 200 km. Number of detected and tracked targets 10/40. Number of simultaneous attacks against targets 6/20.
Armament: By general estimate: One 30-mm cannon. Number external hardpoints two. Internally: AAM R-27, R-33, R-60M, RVV-AE, Vympel K-37, K-77M (4xK-37 or 8xK-77M). Possibility of transportation external fuel tank.
