Il-80 (Il-86VPK, Il-86VzPU, izdeliye 80) - doomsday planes. The aircraft is intended for command and control of troops and armed forces, including nuclear, even in a nuclear war.
Aircraft Il-80 (VzPU) was developed on the basis of the Il-86 passenger aircraft. The first flight took place on May 29, 1985. The IL-80 differed from the IL-86 in the presence of a large overhead compartment in the forward fuselage. This compartment is used to place the necessary radio-electronic equipment in it. There are also no windows on the aircraft, and pylons are installed on the wing of the aircraft, where power generators for the electronic equipment of the aircraft are located.
A total of four Il-80 units were built, all aircraft are in service with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
