IL-76VPK design designation. Il-76SK military designation / military "SK - special command and as Il-82. Il-76VPK air command post, developed on based on the Il-76MD with four D-30KP turbofan engines with a thrust of 12.000 kgf each.

Satellite communications equipment was placed on top in the forward fuselage from the cockpit to the center section in a box-shaped superstructure.

The special equipment of the aircraft is analogous with the Il-86VPK as well as of the AWACS A-50 aircraft.
