An-12 four-engine military transport aircraft designed by OKB O.K. Antonov in the 50s.

The aircraft is made according to the scheme of a cantilever monoplane with a high wing. The tail unit of the classical scheme.

The power plant consists of four AI-20M (AI-20K) TVDs with a take-off power of 4250 hp each. with four-bladed feathered variable-pitch propellers AB-64I with a diameter of 4.5 m.

The first prototype, made its maiden flight in 1957 while production ended in 1972. Produced in China without a license, and continues to be commercially available.

An-12 has been exported to Yugoslavia, Poland, Guinea, Jordan, Egypt, Madagascar, Syria, Yemen, Ethiopia, India, Iraq, Bangladesh.


It was used in conflicts and wars, such as India-China, India-Pakistan, Israel-Egypt and in the war in Afghanistan, Yugoslavia and the Georgia-Abkhazia conflict. They were widely used in the Chechen war.


Modifications: 
An-12A: 1961 - equipped with AI-20A engines (4.000 hp each) with increased capacity tanks in the wing (up to 16.660 lt). Capacity increased to 20.000 kg.
An-12B: 1963 - The fuel tanks in the wing were modified (with a total capacity of up to 19.500 lt). Auxiliary power element (APU) type TG-16 was installed (on the left side). The rudder wheel compensation surface was increased, the two weapon pylon were removed, and a seat for the flying engineer was installed. Winches BL-52 (8.000 kg) were replaced with BL-1500.
An-12P/AP/BP: 1963-1989 - Fuel tanks were placed under the floor of the 9.850 lt aircraft.
An-12BK: 1967 - Equipped with AI-20M engines (maximum power 4.250 hp each), the radio equipment is partially upgraded. The door opening was increased up to 105 mm, aerodynamic covers were placed in the ramp area. Replaced the APU TG-16 with TG-16M, (allows the engine to start at an altitude of 3.000 meters). A remote-controlled winch GL-1500DP, a crane with a lifting capacity of up to 2.300 kg were installed and detachable seats were placed on the ramp.
An-12BK-PP:  Jammer developed on the basis of An-12B.
An-12UD/UD-3: 1960 - version with additional fuel tanks in the cargo cabin of the aircraft (2 or 3 x 4.000 lt).
An-12-PL: 1961 - Polar version, instead of the landing gear, skis were installed. Two aircraft were built.
An-12T: 1961 - transport of fuel tank.
An-12BM: 1962 - Special modification of the An-12B for long-distance communications research via Molnia-1 satellite. One aircraft was modified.
An-12BK: 1963 - Search-and-rescue aircraft, with special equipment Istok-Golob and special emergency VHF station with direction finding.
An-12-I: 1964 - Special edition of the An-12B equipped with a Fasol type electronic countermeasures. A total of 7 aircraft were built.
An-12BP: 1968-1969 - Research aircraft for radiochemical warfare contamination.
An-12BKV: 1969 - Bombardment and airborne minesweeper, equipped with a permanent conveyor for dropping bombs up to 12.000 kg.
An-12B Kubrik: 1969 - Research aircraft for surface, ground and aerial target infrared detection.
An-12PS: 1969 - AViation and marine search and rescue complex based on the An-12B.
An-12BSh και An-12BKSh: Training and navigator versions of the An-12B and An-12BK for group training (10 jobs in the cargo compartment) of cadets-navigators of the military aviation aviation.
An-12BL: 1970 - An-12B-based experimental aircraft, equipped with special equipment designed to break through the enemy's air defenses.
An-12BK-IS: 1970 - An-12BK equipped with Fasol and Siren' personal electronic protection equipment in four pods on an external sling. A total of 45 aircraft were modified. By the mid-seventies, another 105 aircraft had been converted.
An-12PP: 1970 - jammer developed on the basis of An-12 (BK, B). A total of  27 aircraft were built.
An-12BK-PPS: 1971 - group protection jammer, equipped with the Siren response jamming station. A total of 19 aircraft were built.
An-12BK-PPS: 1974 - Based on the An-12BK Interference Aircraft, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment from the An-12BK-PPS version (1971).
An-12BK-IS: 1974 - lectronic warfare aircraft (EW), equipped with an individual electronic countermeasures station "Fasol", later it was replaced by the "Barrier" and "Siren' " system, four pods were installed on an external sling. Total built 45 aircraft. By the mid-seventies, another 105 aircraft had been converted.
An-12M: 1972 - Equipped with AI-20DM engines (5.180 hp each), with AV-68DM variable pitch propeller with a diameter of 4,7 meters. Only one aircraft was modified.
An-12MGA: 1959-1972 - Political version armament and cargo throwing equipment removed. The RBP-3 radar was replaced with ROZ-1. Some of the aircraft carried an additional 16 batteries in the tail unit in instead of the gun.
An-12BTK: 1972 - Aircraft refueling aircraft (Fuel refueling aircraft).
An-12B: 1972 - Flying metrological research laboratory. One aircraft was modified.
An-12B: 1972 - Flying laboratory for the control and analysis of information on air disasters. Only one aircraft was modified.
An-12BSM: 1973 - Based on the MGA, for container transport, it is equipped with two cranes with a lifting capacity of 5.000 kg. It can carry 8 pallets type PA-2.5, or 8 containers UAK-2.5 or 4 pallets type PA-5.6 or 4 containers UAK-5A.
An-12BKK Kapsula: 1975 - Military version for personnel transfer (VTA command). An aircraft was modified.
An-12BKC Ciklon: 1979 - An-12BK-based flying laboratory for meteorological research. Equipped with equipment for measuring and cloud conditions. Two aircraft were modified.
