The AL-7F was developed in 1953 based on the AL-7.
The AL-7F entered serial production in 1957.

The AL-7F is a second-generation afterburning turbojet engine that epitomizes the technological advancements of its era. Designed primarily for use in fighter aircraft, it delivers a maximum thrust of 9.600 kgf when the afterburner is engaged, offering substantial power for high-performance military aircraft.

This engine features a single-shaft configuration, which is both efficient and compact. It is equipped with a nine-stage axial compressor, where the first stage operates in supersonic conditions, thereby enhancing the efficiency of air intake and overall engine performance. The annular combustion chamber incorporates 18 swirl burners, ensuring stable and uniform combustion across a wide range of operational conditions, which contributes to reliable engine operation.

The exhaust gases are expanded through a two-stage turbine, designed to maximize energy extraction and minimize drag. The engine’s jet nozzle is non-adjustable, a design choice that simplifies construction while also reducing the engine's overall weight-a crucial factor for aircraft performance.

The control system of the AL-7F is hydromechanical, integrating basic automation elements to ensure both safe and reliable engine operation, even under extreme flight conditions.
