The D-30KP turbofan engine was developed in 1972 for installation on Il-76 passenger aircraft. The D-30KP turbofan engine has been mass-produced since 1972-1981. In total, more than 4.500 engines were produced.

The turbofan engine of the D-30KP (developed on the basis of D-30KU) is made according to a two-shaft scheme and consists of a three-stage low-pressure compressor, a 11-stage  high-pressure compressor, a annular combustion chamber, a two-stage high-pressure turbine and  4-stage low-pressure turbine,  unregulated nozzle-exhaust mixer and thrust reverser buckets.
