A promising medium military transport aircraft for short takeoff and landing, designed to transport up to 18-20 tons of cargo, was created on the basis of the An-158.
The power plant of the aircraft consists of two turbofan three-shaft double-circuit D-436-148FM with a thrust of 7.010 kgf (tABM = + 30oC) and 7.690 kgf in emergency power raiting.
The aircraft has an improved Western-made avionics.
An-178-100R should replace the An-12, An-26, An-32 military transport aircraft and not only in the military transport aviation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (Armed Forces of Ukraine).
On December 28, 2021, the An-178-100R, which is intended for flight tests, was presented to the public for the first time.
