Based on the H-6 bomber, it is used by the Chinese Air Force as an air refueling aircraft with two points with a capacity of carrying 18.500 kg of fuel. It can refuel in an hour, up to six J-8D fighters. The first modified aircraft flew in 1990 and a total of 10 were made. All aircrafts belong to the 9th Aviation Regiment, based in Lain at Guandjou and are being used for aerial refueling of fighters in the region of the South Chinese sea
