This is the fourth of the seven, in total, “Roussen” type ships. It was constructed in the Elefsis yards, based on a proposal from the english Design Office “Vosper Thornycroft Ltd”.

It received its name in honor of Navy Commander Michael Grigoropoulos, who served on the destroyer “VASISSA OLGA”, and was killed on September 26, 1943, during a German air attack at Lakki Bay, by the Isle of Leros which resulted in the sinking of the destroyer.
It is the second ship of the fleet bearing that name. The first was a Ferry Boat with the number L-161. It is the former USS LSM-45 which was one of six similar type ceded to Greece in 1958 by the U.S., under the military assistance.
