The type La Combattante IIa constructed in Yards Construction Mechaniques de Normandie in Cherbourg, France. The HS PEZOPOULOS (P-73) joined to the power of the Hellenic Navy on 25 April 1995.

It received this name in honor of Navy Commander Theodore Pezopoulos Hellenic Navy, Captain of Greek destroyer Hydra killed when the ship sank, the Saronic Gulf, on 22 April 1941.
