The Antikythera mechanism
Seven large fragments (A-6) and 75 minor pieces (1-75), made of bronze, have survived.
It is certain that the 75 small fragments belong to the Mechanism.
It contained at least 30 gears, dials, scales, axles and pointers. The Greek inscriptions on the surface of many fragments refer to astronomical and calendar calculations as well as to instructions for its use it was contained in a wooden-framed case, probably a bronze plaque on its front and back.
It is dated co 150-100 BC. (Source: National Archaeological Museum).
