IRIS – Infra Red Imaging System Tail / Thrust Vector – Controlled

Short-range missile with infrared guidance. Intended mainly for engagements that lead toclose dogfight. Developed by the German company Bodenseewerk Geratetechnik GmbH (BGT), which participated in the development program with six other countries.

 

IRIS-T Air-to-air missile

 

The first test launch of missile IRIS-Ttook place in October 2000 with a F-16 of the Greek Air Force. In March 2002, it made successful shoot-downs against UAVs, from anF-4 Phantom II. On December 5, 2005, the Luftwaffe received the first party. The missileIRIS-T is equipped with head type TELL.
