Middle life upgrade
The P-3 Orion is a four-engine turboprop anti-submarine patrol aircraft, is based in on theL-188 Electra (commercial airliner). The first flight of the prototype was performed on November 25, 1959.
19.06.2019 the Hellenic Navy received the first modernized P-3B Orion aircraft s/n 744, which allows the aircraft to operate at least until 2040.
In the period 1993-96 the Hellenic Navy received six used P-3B Orion from the USA, which joined the 353 MNAS (Maritime Patrol Squadron “Triaina”) at the 112 CW (Combat Wing), Air Base Elefsina.

The modernization of the Greek P-3B Orion.
It is equipped with: ELM-2022 3D X-band multi mode maritime surveillance radar made by IAI/ELTA and incorporates SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar), FLIR MX-15HD (in a stabilized rotating system), Electronic warfare (EW) system ESM/ELINT ELL-8385 (Integrated UAV ESM/ELINT system), AN/APX-123 IFF transponder, Link II system type MDM-2022, AN/ARC-210 V/UHF Communication System, AN/ARC-243 Airborne HF Communication System, Automatic identification system (AIS), MLR-2020 VOR/ILS (multi-mode receivers), New Rockwell Collins cockpit (all-glass cockpit), AN/ASH-37 structural data recording set (SDRS), Navigation System AN/ASN-124, IR AAS-36 (Infra Red Detecting Set) and a large part of the modernization of sensors, communications and weapon systems of the P-3B Orion was undertaken by the Greek company ISI Hellas
