In numbers Through the lens Video
Greek Spitfire took part in battles in the Middle East, Italy and the Balkans, while after the end of World War II, they also took part in the Civil War.
The Mk IX version was used after the war by the Hellenic Air Force. The pictured Spitfire "MJ 755" has joined in 1944 the 43rd Squadron of the RAF which then covered the landings in the South of France. It was used in the war against Italy, then it was handed over to the Hellenic Air Force in 1947. The Hellenic Air Force used the Spitfire Mk IX as a photo identifier which was properly modified and equipped with two cameras on the fuselage, used until 1953 when it was permanently withdrawn.
On July 5, 2007, at the Dhekelia Air Base (Air Force Museum), an event was held to restore the unique, well-preserved, Spitfire Mk IX with number MJ755 in working order.
