Brief technical description:

Combat helicopter Mi-28NM designed by Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant. Designed and built according to the classic single-rotor scheme with a five-bladed main rotor and a four-bladed tail rotor, an X-shaped scheme (tail rotor blades are installed at an angle of 45o and 135o to reduce noise levels) and an auxiliary wing. The helicopter is equipped with two VK-2500P turboshaft engines.

The helicopter can be apply:
- search and destruction of armoured vehicles, single and group targets, artillery and battle anti-aircraft defense means, fighting enemy low-speed aircraft, aircraft reconnaissance and target detection when accomplishing combat missions.
- training of air cadets from military schools and improvement of flight proficiency of the helicopter crew.

The cockpit is armored, consists of a navigator-operator (in front) and a pilot (rear).

The crew rescue system includes energy-absorbing seats with an increased cushioning stroke of up to 30 cm and a system for attaching seat belts to the pilot's and navigator's seats, allowing an emergency landing with vertical speeds up to 12 m/s.

Flight instruments - the helicopter is equipped with a full set of instrumentation that allows piloting and solving air navigation tasks at any time of the day and in difficult meteorological conditions. The instrumentation is located in the cockpit at the workplaces of the navigator-operator and pilot.

Fuselage - The fuselage of the helicopter is an all-metal semi-monocoque, consisting of a nose, a central part, a tail boom and a tail pylon. The nose of the fuselage includes a fairing, cockpit. The central part of the fuselage consists of a wing and a rear compartment, turning into a tail boom. The tail boom is all-metal, variable section, is an integral part of the power structural of the fuselage. It houses the front of the tail shaft, the tail rotor control wiring.

Wing - The helicopter is equipped with a low aspect ratio wing, span of 4.88 m - mid wing, cantilever, with a anhedral (angle "V"). For transporting weapons, installed on the wing has four pylons (two for each wing plane). An airborne defense complex (defense device) was installed at the ends of the wing.

The helicopter landing gear consists of two main support and one tail supports. Each main landing gear is equipped with one has brake wheel 720x320 mm in size. The wheels of the main landing gear have a pressure of 0.53 MPa. Wheel of tail landing gear support, one non-brake wheel 480x200mm in size. Rear support wheel self-orienting. Wheel track - 2,79 m, wheel base - 11,0 m. To protect the crew of a rough landing, the landing gear provides a reduction in overloads when hitting the ground with a vertical speed of 12 m/s.

The power plant VK-2500P - the helicopter is equipped with two VK-2500P turboshaft engines that transmit torque through the main gearbox to the main and tail rotors. The engines operate independently of each other, which allows, if necessary, to fly with one engine running. Starting the engines is autonomous and is carried out from the onboard auxiliary unit (APU) or from the ground power unit. A dustproof device is used to protect the engines from sand and dust.

The design of the engine is made taking into account the principle of modular assembly, which makes it possible to restore it by replacing modules in operating conditions. The engine is equipped with a full authority digital engine control (FADEC).

Auxiliary power unit TA14-130-28 - The APU is designed for air starting the VK-2500P engine on the ground and in flight.

The fuel system is designed to provide fuel to the two main engines. The composition of the fuel system includes: three fuel tanks (two expendable and one common), with a total capacity of approximately 1.900 liters, are placed in a sealed container under the floor of the central fuselage. To increase the flight range of the helicopter, it is allowed to hang additional external tanks.

Transmission HC - The transmission of the helicopter consists of the main gearbox, main rotor brakes, tail shaft, intermediate gearbox and tail gearbox.

Main gear box - designed to change the speed and torque transmission from two turboshaft engines to the main and tail rotors.

Main rotor - the main rotor creates the lift and thrust required for the flight of the helicopter. With its help, the helicopter is controlled relative to the longitudinal and transverse axes. Main rotor five-bladed, with a diameter of 17.2 m. The main rotor blades can withstand the hit of shells of 20-30 mm caliber without destruction.

A variable pitch tail rotor generates thrust that is used to balance the reaction torque from the main rotor and steer the helicopter on course. The tail rotor with a four-blade diameter of 3.84 m, designed according to the principle of X-shaped tail rotor scheme, installed at angles of 45 degrees and 135 degrees, which made it possible to reduce noise significantly. The blades are rectangular in plan, made of fiberglass, the blade chord is 0.24 m.

Flight and navigation equipment - It is designed to provide piloting and solve navigation problems during flights in simple and difficult meteorological conditions at any time of the year and day.

Electronic equipment:

On-board radar station N025: number of detected and tracked targets up to 10, number of simultaneous attacks against targets up to 2. The radar has the ability to detect small targets at a distance of up to 20 km. Frequency range 100-150 GHz.
