NATO reporting name: Flagon
Factory name: «T-58»
Mission: Interceptor of airborne assets of offence.
Chief designers: E.A. Ivanov, N.P. Polenov.


Single-seat fighter-interceptor equipped with two turbojet engines with an afterburner R-11F2S-300 with a total thrust of 12.400 kgf (2x6.200 kgf). The modernized Su-15TMs were equipped with R-13F2-300 (R-13-300 and R-13F-300) engines with a thrust of 6,700 kgf each. The first flight of the T-49 prototype took place in 1958, and how the Su-15 (T-58) took off for the first time in 1962. It was mass-produced by the Novosibirsk Aircraft Plant from 1966 to 1971. He was in service with the Soviet Air Defence Forces 1967 to 1993. 1300 aircraft of all versions were produced (period 1966-80). Currently, all aircraft have been withdrawn from service.

Modifications:  
Su-15 (1966) Serial fighter-interceptor.
T-58L (1965-66)  Flying laboratory.
T-58VD (1966)  Based on the T-58D-1, V/STOL interceptor, with three additional   and vertically   mounted RD36-35 engines with a maximum thrust   of 800 kg each.
Su-15UT (1968)  Two-seat training aircraft based on the Su-15. This version lacks   armament and radar.
Su-15T (1969)  Aircraft equipped with R13-300 engines, with improved “Tayfun”   radar performance and improved avionics. The aircraft carried a   twin 620x180 mm nose wheel instead of a single one wheel. a total of 20 aircraft were built.
Su-15-98M (1968)  Equipped with the "Vozdux-1M" station providing the interception   of aerial targets with speeds of 500-2.500 km/h flying at heights   from 500 to 24.000 meters.
Su-15TM (1970)  Equipped with the powerful “Tayfun-M” type radar, a total of 450   aircraft were built.
Su-15Bis (1972)  Based on the Su-15TM, equipped with two R25-300 turbo engines with a maximum thrust of 7.300 kg each, the ASK-T58 avionics was installed. The aircraft successfully passed its trials, but never went into production.
Su-15 (1974-75)  Aerial refueling version, only two aircraft modified.
Su-15UM (1976)  Trainer aircraft (based on the Su-15TM) with full combat   equipment (capable of carrying 2xR-98M, 2xR-60 air-to-air   missiles and two pods UPK-23-250 with Gsh-23 cannons), but   no radar. Later attempts to install a “Tayfun-M” type radar failed,  due  to the fact that the aircraft was overweight.
