The Pe-8ON, a special-purpose transport aircraft, was developed based on the Pe-8. It was designed to carry 12 passengers and featured a separate three-seat cabin for members of the Communist Party of the USSR.
The aircraft was powered by four ACh-30B diesel engines, each producing 1,500 hp in takeoff mode, and equipped with three-bladed UF-61B variable-pitch propellers.
Only two prototypes were built. After the Great Patriotic War, both aircraft were transferred to polar aviation, where they were re-equipped with ASh-82 engines in place of the original ACh-30B units.
