The system was developed by Swedish “Bofors”, under the project name MW1, while its commercial name was DWS-39. To improve the performance of the AFDS, a INS/GPS guidance system was installed.

This system carries no engine and after it's dropped, it glides to its target achieving a range of 10 km with a CEP of about 10 m.

The dispenser can be equipped with a variety of payloads depending on the mission:
- 24 RCB bombs of 17 kg each
-120 ÁÔĚ of 3,4 kg each
- 96 AMS or ADS of 4,2 kg each
- 504 bomblets  of 44mm of 0,6 kg against armoured  vehicles
-1848 general purpose bomblets Ě42, of  0,23 kg and a diameter of 35 mm.
