Tactical missile (gliding – guided) which was developed by Texas Instruments Defense Systems Electronic. The work on AGM-154 begun in 1992. In December of 1995, the first tests took place at the Naval Air Weapons Center.
In March 1996 the test were moved to USAF testing center at Eglin Air Base.
In 1997, Texas Instruments was bought by Raytheon Company and development was  carried on by Raytheon.

The AGM-154 JSOW missile is available in three versions:


AGM-154A (Baseline JSOW) – equipped with sub-ammunitions of 145 bomblets of type BLU-97/B, against moving or standing personnel or armored targets.
AGM-154B (Anti-Armor) – carries 6 sub-ammunition BLU 108/B.
AGM-154C (Unitary Variant) – this version is equipped with the advanced  fuse MAFIS (Multi-Application Fuze Initiation Systems), by Brittish “Thales Missile Electronics”. The missile can also be guided through NAVSTAR system.
